MISSION
Many have heard Jesus Christ was not the blond-haired, blue-eyed deity in countless paintings. And the amazing thing -- no one has ever made a big deal of it. We’d like to change that because Jesus being portrayed as white is not a tiny historical error. It is a massive mistake of, what else, biblical proportions. If Jesus had been accurately portrayed all these centuries, society would be different. With a darker Jesus on our walls:
Wouldn’t we be more accepting of others?
Would there be superiority based on skin tone?
Would Whites Only signs been mounted over water fountains?
Would we need the courts to ensure integration?
Would it have taken Congress 122 years to declare lynchings a federal crime?
Could politicians use the “race card” so effectively?
Would Babe Ruth have battled Josh Gibson for the homerun title?
Would America be kinder, nicer, different?
It’s important we state this: we’re not militant rabble rousers, wanting to shame people and shove guilt down anyone’s throat. We’d just like people to think a little about a truth we’ve ignored -- Jesus Christ was a person of color. Thinking about that might adjust just some long-held beliefs about everything. That is our hope. That is our mission.
